The Creator....

"My shoes are not fashion, they are gestures."

It should have been "...& then there was light. Let there be shoes, & then there was Manolo Blahnik".

It all started with Manolo Blahnik. Don't get me wrong. I adore Roger Vivier who created the stiletto in 1954, beautiful, refined and whimsical shoes. But, Manolo took shoe making to a whole new dimension.  For me, its the handcrafted element, the classic designs that have that extra something special & mostly importantly the way he knows how to make a pair of shoes fit & look like a dream on any woman's foot. I have been ridiculously obsessed with him for a long time. I would walk into Evelyn Miles (an exclusive Sydney shoe store) as a teen and pick up the 2 or 3 styles that they stocked. As a poor uni student the thought of owning a pair  when I would have been earning maybe $160 per week was SOOO far out of reach. I do remember pinning over a pair of classic black suede mules with a sweet kitten heel & large white leather trimmed pilgrim buckle. They were a size 36 & on sale at $500. I was a size 38 & probably had $30 to my name. But I didnt care I had every intention in buying that pair of Manolo's even if they were 2 sizes too small.

I never did buy them. But, I still look for them online as they really were my first Manolo crush. I did however explore my love through his sketch books. So you can imagine my excitement with the release of
"Manolo's new shoes".

I could look through his sketches for hours on end...there are so many things I love about his shoes.
I that his shoes as well as sketches are beautiful pieces of art.
I that one of the first pair of shoes he designed had cherry embellishments.
I that when you hold them in your hands they are light as feathers.

I also that he personally sculpts the heels & chisels & sands back all the shoe lasts himself so that the shoes that will be built on them will be the exact shape he wishes them to be.

They almost always have unusual lining with sweet little cut out patterns, and even the most minuscule straps are positions to perfectly sit on the foot. The man is a footwear genius.

I ♥ this sketch so much I had it featured on my 21st birthday invitation...I'm wondering if I can somehow squeeze it into our wedding invitation without my fiance noticing?

♥♥♥

Now, off to buy his new book...or maybe even a new pair of shoes??

Just for the sake of beauty...

I found the current Harper's Bazaar issue on the coffee table last night & couldn't get to it fast enough...All I saw was brows...Bambi, the most A-M-A-Z-I-N-G Chanel dress & the words BAMBI TAKES PARIS...purrrfectttionnn is it now?

Bambi is divine..just DIVINE! Those eyes & lips MY GOD! ...I dont think I need to mention those Brooke Shields-esque brows again do I? Flawless...

.....speaking of amazing beauty & flawlessness, I fell in love with these pics of Kate, Clemence & Hilary just recently...

 ...Kate's just a porcelain doll isnt she?...&

Karl ♥ Clemence and whats not to love she is Parisian chic/ edgy free spirit all in one...

...and well Hilary is always looking so sweet but there is something about this look that makes her a little more elegant & refine..And I am completely in love with that hair!!!!

VISUAL CANDY...

I thought I had died & gone to heaven.

I watched Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette.

I know, I'm a little slow off the mark.

I have wanted to see it for what feels like forever...

From the get go I was in my version of eye candy utopia.

I know it has received extremely mixed reviews mainly due to historical inaccuracies & so forth, or Kirsten Dunst's accent or the fact their are Converse shoes in the background.....etc etc etc.

As a history buff, I understand these reactions but you can't possibly deny Coppola credit (fact & fictions aside) where it is deserved.

It is visually divine.

It really can't get any better for me.

Elaborate costume design in sugary pastel shades, wonderful shoes made by my absolute favourite Manolo Blahnik, plus dainty macarons & all desserts created by Laduree...like I previously said, it really can't get any better can it?

..Whoops....France & Versailles- yes, there we go.

I just realised that I don't think I have ever posted about my love, obsession, absolute passion for Manolo Blahnik. And no, it's not one of those I want to wear Manolo's like Carrie kind of obsessions. Although I completely understand how she made the world fall further in love with his shoes she just makes everything she wears look fabulous.

But, my love is one that borders on crazy person, sweaty palms, heart palpitations kind of obsessive/stalker-ish love. It's not surprising to those who know me, I've loved shoes since birth. I even had big ambitions into making it a career (and still kind of do), for years I sketched profusely, studied Footwear Production/Custom Made & worked alongside a wonderful shoe maker in Sydney's Paddington.  My life has taken me down a completely different path but I'll always have the intention of opening up shop with my own designs.

But until then, I can pine over Manolo's.

What's not to love about a movie filled that's filled with
sweet macaron shades?

Anthropo-jealous-logie...

Ok so, I have just gone crazy mentally adding everything to my Anthropologie online shopping bag. I am greeeen with envy that we don't have a store in Australia.

It's just a little difficult buying coats & dresses without trying them on don't you think?

But that doesn't mean I can't go nuts on shoes & accessories!

Here is everything I would buy if I could...(Oh to dream)....

...and to think, that I haven't even ventured into the homewares section...
